Gramidin Ointment Topical antibacterial agent Composition: Each 100 gm contains : Gentamycin base (as sulphate) 0.3 gm . Properties: Gramidin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It exerts its bactericidal action by binding to the bacterial ribosome and inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Gramidin provides highly effective topical treatment in infections that may not respond to other topical antibiotics. Gramidin is effective against many pathogens including the following: Staphylococcus aurous (including some penicillinase-producing strains), and Gram negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aerobacter aeruginosa. Indications & usage: Primary skin infections: Impetigo, superficial folliculitis, furunculosis, and pyoderma gangrenosum. Secondary skin infections: eczematoid dermatitis, pustular acne, pustular psoriasis, paronychia, infected contact dermatitis, infected superficial burns, insect bites and stings, wounds from minor surgery, lacerations and abrasions, and bacterial super infections of fungal or viral infections. Contra - indications: History of sensitivity to gentamicin . Side effects: Irritation has been reported in small percentage of patients but does not require discontinuance of treatment. Photosensitization may occur. Warnings & precautions: § Use of topical antibiotics may allow over growth of non-susceptible organisms including fungi. If this occurs, treatment should be discontinued temporarily and appropriate therapy should be instituted. § Use of Gramidin on large area for prolonged period is not recommended particularly in children, elderly, patients and in patients with renal impairment. Dosage & administration: A small amount of Gramidin ointment is applied to the lesions (2-3) times daily. Packing: Tube of 15 gm.
