Cidophylline Ampoule Antiashmatic & bronchodilator Composition: Cidophylline 2 ml: Each ampoule (2 ml) contains: Dihydroxypropyl theophylline (Diprophylline) 250 mg Cidophylline 5 ml: Each ampoule (5 ml) contains: Dihydroxypropyl theophylline (Diprophylline) 300 mg Properties: Cidophylline is a derivative of theophylline having similar pharmacological action. It has two distinct actions in the airways of patients with reversible obstruction which are: - Smooth muscle relaxation (i.e. bronchodilatation) which is mediated by inhibition of phosphodiesterase (PDE). - Suppression of the response of the airways to stimuli (i.e. non-bronchodilator prophylactic effects). Indications & usage: Cidophylline is indicated for the treatment of the symptoms and reversible airflow obstruction associated with chronic asthma and other chronic lung disease as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Contra-indications: Known hypersensitivity to theophylline or theophylline derivatives. Side effects: Gastro-intestinal disturbance. Tachycardia and palpitations. CNS stimulation: arrhythmias and insomnia. Convulsions may rarely occur. Drug interactions: Diprophylline is not metabolised by hepatic microsomal cytochrome P450. So, it does not exhibit the numerous interactions seen with theophylline Probenicid may decrease clearance of diprophylline. Warnings & precautions: * Cidophylline should be used cautiously in these cases: Renal impairment. Hyperthyroidism. Peptic ulcer. Fever. Epilepsy. Cidophylline should be used cautiously during late pregnancy and lactation to avoid neonatal irritability or apnea that may occur.
