Rhinex Nasal Drops Nasal decongestant Composition : Rhinex Nasal Drops (adult) 0.1% Xylometazoline HCl 0.1% Rhinex Nasal Drops (infantile) 0.05% Xylometazoline HCl 0.05% Properties : Rhinex contain xylometazoline which is a sympathomimetic with marked alpha-adrenergic activity. It exerts its effect by vasoconstriction of the mucosal blood vessels which in turn reduces oedema of the nasal mucosa with rapid and prolonged action in reducing swelling and congestion when applied to mucous membrane. Indications & usage: The nasal mucosa is sensitive to changes in atmospheric temperature and humidity and these alone may cause slight nasal congestion. So, Rhinex is indicated for the relief of nasal congestion caused by changes in atmosphere or caused by rhinitis or sinusitis and coryza. Contra-indications: For individuals who are sensitive to any of the drug components. All sympathomimetic nasal decongestants are contraindicated during treatment with MAOIs. Side effects: Generally mild and infrequent including: Transient irritation may occur. Rebound congestion may occur after frequent or prolonged use. Systemic effect, including nausea, headache and dizziness may occur after local administration. Hypertension may be followed by rebound hypotension. Dry mouth and throat , headache may rarely occur. Drug interactions: All sympathomimetics nasal decongestant are liable to cause a hypertensive crisis if used during treatment with MAOI. Warnings & precautions: Use with caution in patients with hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Avoid excessive or prolonged use. Dosage & administration: Adult : 2-3 drops of Rhinex Nasal Drops (adult) 0.1% in each nostril 2-3 times daily & not longer than 7 days. N.B: Rhinex Nasal Drops (adult) 0.1% should not be used for children under 12 years. Children: 1-2 drops of Rhinex Nasal Drops (infantile) 0.05% in each nostril 1-2 times daily & not longer than 7 days. Packing : Rhinex Nasal Drops (adult) 0.1%: Bottle of 10 ml.
