Topical antirheumatic – cold relief Composition:
Each 100 g. contains:
Eucalyptus 1. 50 g
Thymol 1. 50 g
Menthol 1. 50 g
Camphor 3. 00 g
Methyl Salicylate 2. 77 g Pharmacological properties :-
Vicksacid ointment contains an active natural aromatic ingredients that have a mild decongestant properties for relieving nasal catarrh ( blocked nose ), a mild cooling effect that can soothe irritation in the lining membrane of the nose thereby easing breathing and relieving cough , in addition an active analagesic , pain killer methyl salicylate for fast relief of muscular pains .
Vicksacid ointment contains the following ingredients :-
Eucalyptus oil : Is used commonly as a decongestant and expectorant for upper respiratory infections or inflammation , as well as for various musculoskeletal conditions .
Menthol : relieves itching and causes a dilatation of blood vessels on the surface of the skin to produce a sensation of coldness followed by a reduction of pain .
Camphor and methyl salicylate : are counter-irritants when applied topically cause redness and heat be produced , that distract the brain from the original pain and therefore reduce the perception pain .
Vicksacid ointment works immediately after externally applied , possesses a good penetrating power with a rapidly diffusion into painful tissues without interacts with other medications as pills do and without causing side effects . Indications and usage :- Relief of minor aches and pain of muscles and joints associated with simple backache , .sprains , strains , and sport injuries .
As a steam inhalation for sinusitis , nasal catarrh , and nasal congestion .
Temporarily relief of cough due to common cold . Warnings and precautions :-
If itching or irritation occurs discontinue use .
For external use only , and avoid contact with eye and moist lining membranes of mouth and nasal passage , and if accidental contact occurs rinse with cold water..
Do not apply to wounds or damaged , broken or inflamed skin .
Do not use in children under 2 years of age .
Do not cover immediately after application .
when used as a steam inhaler never reheat the mixture , and never heat while using.
Use in pregnancy
There is no information available about safety using during pregnancy ,
therefore it is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless considered
essential .
Use in lactation :-
There are no harmful effect when vicksacid ointment is used by breast feeding
mothers . Side effects :-
Headache .
Flushing .
It mat cause a local irritation reaction . Dosage and direction of use :-
For congestion in nose and chest , sore throat , cough , and muscular tightness.
Rub vicksacid ointment into the affected area until penetration of the
ointment is complete ,, keep the body warm , and repeated applying at
bedtime .
As a steam inhalation for cold , sinusitis , and nasal catarrh .
Apply twice daily , by melt two teaspoonfuls of vicksacid ointment in a very
hot water and inhale the vapour , never reheat the mixture , and never heat
while using as a steam inhaler . Package :-
