In CNS : Retardation of abnormal , paroxysmal , excessive discharge from CNS neurons . In Kidney : Renal loss of HCO3 ion , which carries out sodium , potassium and water leading to promotion of alkaline diuresis in instances of abnormal fluid retention . Indications & usage : Open angle glaucoma , secondary glaucoma and preoperatively in angle closure glaucoma . A second line drug for both tonic –clonic and partial seizures and occasionally helpful in atypical absence , atonic and tonic seizures and center encephalic epilepsy .
