Ampoules
Single vitamin [long acting vit. B12] Composition:
Each ampoule (1 ml) contains:
Cyanocobalamine tannin complex
(Equiv. to Cyanocobalamine) 1 mg
Sesame oil to 1 ml Properties:
Vitamin B12 is essential to growth, cell reproduction, hematopoiesis, and nucleoprotein and myelin synthesis. Vitamin B12 can be converted to coenzyme B12 in tissue. In the absence of this enzyme, tetrahydrofolate can't be regenerated from its inactive storage form and a functional folate deficiency occur.
Vitamin B12 is associated with fat and carbohydrate metabolism and protein synthesis. Its deficiency results in megaloblastic anemia, GI lesions, and neurologic damage.
Cidolvex differs from the aqueous solution of vit. B12 in that it is dissolved in sesame oil so it has a slow onset and a prolonged duration of action. After IM injection, it is slowly absorbed, thus it exists in serum for a long time. Indications & usage:
Treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency state that may include:
Megaloblastic anemia .
Pernicious anemia(uncomplicated or accompanied by nervous system involvement).
Neuromuscular disorder as tremors and cramps .
Diabetic polyneuropathy, acute and chronic neuritis, optic neuritis, and other states
Related to neurologic damage .
As vitamin B12 supplement in certain states that need it in excess of normal as
( pregnancy, hemolytic anemia, hemorrhage, malignancy, hepatic and renal
disease).
Prophylactically after partial or total gastroctomy or total ileal resection. Contra-indications:
History of hypersensitivity to vitamin B12 . Side effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported.
Polycythemia vera.
Mild transient diarrhea. Drug interactions
- Parenteral chloramphenicol may attenuate the effect of vitamin B12 in anemia .
- Serum concentration of Vit B12 may be decreased by concurrent administration of
oral contraceptives . Warnings & precautions;
Avoid intravenous route.
N.B. it is not known to be harmful during pregnancy or lactation. Dosage & administration:
Initial dose: one ampoule IM weekly for 4 weeks,
Maintenance dose: one ampoule IM every month. Packing:
